Training – Preparation for the American Petroleum Institute Examinations
API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspectors
API 570 Piping Inspectors
API 653 Above Ground Storage Tank Inspectors
This demanding program strictly meets the formal participation requirements for training and complies with even stricter criteria for examination participation, as determined by the American Petroleum Institute.
Participation in the seminar can ensure up to a 95% success rate in the examinations and in obtaining the API Inspector Certificate—an impressive percentage, considering that statistically, the API global pass rate ranges only between 57–63%.
The program consists of three parts:
A. Online training lasting 4 months (distance learning may be completed within a timeframe chosen by the candidate. The platform will be available 4 months before the start of classroom training).
B. Classroom training lasting 8 days (over 2 weeks).
C. Examinations.
Online Training
The online program consists of 4 modules with a complete set of questions designed to enhance technical knowledge and familiarize candidates with the code. It provides the essential foundation and is considered the minimum requirement before the intensive 8-day classroom training. Our aim is to ensure that all candidates are familiar with the code before starting in-class sessions. Completion of the online training is mandatory before proceeding to classroom instruction.
The e-learning platform will be available 5 months before the official API examination date and will remain active until the day before classroom training begins. Access will then be closed permanently. After enrollment confirmation, candidates will receive personal login credentials and instructions for completing the online training.
Each of the 4 modules is divided into 4 parts. At the end of each module, two knowledge tests are conducted: one open-book and one closed-book. The passing score is 70%. Candidates are advised not to rush but to attempt the tests only when confident in their knowledge.
If a candidate fails the same test twice, they must contact us so we can identify the learning difficulty. Each next module unlocks only after successful completion of the previous one.
It is recommended that for every incorrect answer, candidates refer to the code, find the correct solution, and understand not only the answer but also the technical reasoning behind it.
At the end of all modules, a final test must be completed with a minimum passing score of 70%, with only one attempt allowed. Correct answers will not be provided; instead, a total success percentage will be given.
There are no restrictions regarding when or for how long candidates can engage with the e-learning material. Each candidate chooses their own schedule for lessons and code study.
Classroom Training
Immediately after the online stage, the 8-day classroom training begins. This includes:
- Review and reinforcement of the online learning material
- Worked examples, demonstrations, and calculations on complex technical issues
- Mock exams fully aligned with the official API examinations
The purpose of the mock exams is to fully familiarize candidates with the actual exam format and build their confidence. Instructors will be flexible (within limits) to ensure that all candidates progress at the same learning pace.
The intensive 8-day classroom training begins 10–15 days before the API examination date.
Strict schedules are applied to cover all required material.
Classroom Rules:
- Strict no-phone policy: important calls may only be answered outside the classroom.
- Mock tests cannot be taken out of the classroom: they must be returned to instructors for evaluation. Any attempt to copy (e.g., photos) will result in dismissal from the course.
- Scientific calculator required: candidates must bring and be familiar with a calculator with square root function.
Language of instruction and examinations: English.
Examinations
Once your application has been submitted to API, you will receive a confirmation email. Within 4–6 weeks, you will receive access codes for exam participation. Candidates must then register at an authorized Prometric Test Center or for Remote Proctored Examinations (instructions provided).
WGI will handle the API exam applications on your behalf, and the exam fee is included in the program price.
